Our BSc (Hons) Health, Wellbeing, and Social Care with Foundation Year program provides a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare sector, equipping you with the skills and experiences necessary to make a meaningful impact after graduation.
During the Foundation Year, the curriculum is designed to enhance your academic skills while introducing essential topics related to health and social care. This year lays a solid foundation for your understanding of the sector, setting the stage for your progression in the following years.
In the subsequent three years, the course intensifies, covering key areas such as the behavioral influences on healthcare delivery and effective management within the sector. Entry Requirement
Education Requirements
– A minimum of 80 UCAS tariff points or a Level 3 qualification with 60 credits from Ofqual.
All applicants will be evaluated by the admissions team through an interview that assesses listening and speaking skills, as well as writing proficiency through a personal reflection statement.
Applicants Aged 21 and Over
Candidates who do not meet the standard entry requirements may still be considered based on life or work skills that demonstrate their suitability for undergraduate study with a Foundation program.

Assessment
The assessment strategy is thoughtfully designed to help students develop a comprehensive range of knowledge, skills, and competencies essential in health and social care. It considers various factors, including intended learning outcomes, professional standards within the industry, student demographics, and pedagogical approaches, all aimed at maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the learning experience.
We employ a strategic and holistic approach to selecting and designing assessments. Essays, reports, presentations, debates, and small group projects are recognized as effective methods for evaluating student progress. Whenever feasible, real-life simulations are incorporated, allowing students to construct structured arguments through reflection, judgment, and targeted evaluation. Students will also research specific areas and draw objective conclusions supported by appropriate referencing. Additionally, they will creatively apply evidence-based writing skills to exercise professional judgment in making recommendations and solving problems for future best practices. Group projects will require measured commitment and participation from all members, with evaluations conducted through peer presentations and reviews.
Presentations will be conducted both individually and in groups, focusing on specific scenarios and including a question-and-answer component.
Group debates will center on particular topics or subjects within health and social care, with a proposition presented and defended in a collaborative context. This format allows students to demonstrate their ability to work effectively with peers, respect contributions from fellow students, present information effectively, and formulate persuasive arguments.

Funding Your Studies
All students have access to student finance.
Tuition Fee Loans
A Tuition Fee Loan covers your tuition fees and is paid directly to your institution. You will only begin to repay this loan after completing your course and earning £26,575 or more per year. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible to apply. Please note that students studying with GBS are not eligible for financial bursaries from the institution.
Maintenance Loans
If you qualify, you can also apply for a Maintenance Loan to assist with living expenses. This loan is deposited directly into your bank account at the start of the term and is repaid after graduation, provided your earnings exceed £26,575 per year. For more details, visit [gov.uk/studentfinance].
Maintenance Grants
You may apply for a Maintenance Grant to help with living costs. These grants are also deposited directly into your bank account at the start of the term and do not require repayment. However, receiving a Maintenance Grant will reduce the amount you can borrow in a Maintenance Loan if you choose to apply for one.
New students must demonstrate that they have lived in the UK for five years prior to the course start date to qualify for living cost support from Student Finance England.
